Artist statement

The inspiration for my work is usually found close to home. Subjects I find interesting and compelling to observe are conveyed in a simplistic and stylized form meticulously embellished with mosaics. My desire is to create work that uplifts the spirit.

The creation of my work begins with a sketch. The foam is carved to sculpt the desired form. An alkali resistant fiberglass mesh is attached to the foam and then covered with a polymer fortified cement. The mosaic process begins once the chosen materials have been carefully prepared by cutting, nipping and sanding. I take particular care in choosing materials that are suitable for outdoor or indoor installation.

As I continue to explore this medium, I am amazed by the endless possibilities. I am awed by the emerging personality of each piece and its own personal story that develops as it does. I find each piece transports me to a place of joy.
