Artist statement
I began my career as an artist prepared to do fresco murals. My training under fresco muralist Conrad Albrizio (U.S.) and in Mexico where I attended the National School of Painting and Sculpture, and where I was privileged to observe Diego Rivera at work, came upon the vanishing edge of an idealistic and socially conscious art. These early experiences imparted an indelible impression of the ancient relationship of art to architecture which has been the basis and focus of my work ever since.
As a sculptor my materials and techniques encompass bronze (cast lost wax with various patination); cement (cast, carved or built-up, with color); stoneware and terra-cotta (cast, thrown, slab-built or extruded); and sheet metal (cut with plasma arc, constructed, color finished.)
For the past twenty years I have been recording my thoughts and developing my point of view as an artist in notebooks and journals. My first book, The Illuminated History of Darkness: An Intellectual Adventure, was published in 2000.
